Yea!~ I was one of the lucky blog owners that has been locked out of their blog for almost 12 hours. Finally, blogger and Google have fixed the problem and we are back on.
Unfortunately, some blog owners got up today and their blogs were gone. Completely gone. This is why I have spent the past few hours backing up my blog, I was sick today all morning wondering if it was going to happen to me. Fifteen months of hard work would have been just completely gone including my layout and graphics. If you have a blog I would suggest backing it up by exporting it to another site or to an external hard drive.
I have been considering going to Word Press where supposedly there are less problems like this. Back in the fall I switched to WP for a week or two and didn't like it at all. Freaked out a bit and went back to blogger. Blogger has the ability to freeze your blog, and delete it. This has happened to a few bloggers that I know of, at Christmas Hip 2 Save was locked out and Freebies 4 Mom's blog was completely deleted. I can't imagine how sad and frustrating.
What platform are you using for your blog and if you went to WP are you happy there?

I use blogger like you do. I have thought about going to another blogger service, but I don't feel comfortable doing it. I don't think I will be happy and I am comfortable with my blogs right now. I would also like to hear from others who use wordpress vs. blogger.
We actually pay a small fee and have ours hosted on b2evolution i think...Tim knows more about it than me. In doing that you have to start from scratch and build up your own blog graphics etc. But I used Blogger before that and I still use blogger for my recipe blog.
So, what is the easiest way to backup your blog?
Hey Tiffany, I guess this explains why the deals weren't up after dropping kids at baseball camp. Also explains why when I tried to comment to that baseball post earlier I kept getting an error code saying that my user I.D couldn't be verified. I have subscribed to people with WP and don't find it friendly, don't have a blog, only my 2 cents. So, now you are up and running...WHERE ARE THOSE DEALS??? Only kidding!!
HOW do you back up a blog?? Have any step by step instructions? I think you have sufficiently scared me. If I lost my photography blog that goes back almost 3 years and has ALL of my work on it, I think I might have a nervous breakdown.
I tried Word press as well. I hated it. Not user friendly. Retarded set up. I hated it, and I dont reccomend it.
I moved from Blogger to WP about a year ago. I am a writer and many of my clients used WP and you know why? It it a thousand times more awesome than Blogger!
It's easier, there are so many great plugins (commentluv, optimize for mobile phones, soooo many!) Adding pictures is easier. Fixing problems is easier. And I don't get any of the wonkiness that Blogger sometimes throws out. I pay to have my WP site hosted independently through BlueHost so I never worry about being locked out or flagged or at the mercy of Google.
This is my biggest fear. My goal is to move to WP too, but I started to do it on my own and got overwhelmed. I finally decided to hire someone to do it for me and the person I want is unavailable! Ahhh, I hope I can figure this out soon.
I'm in the same boat! I couldn't update my blog for 8 hours yesterday and am worried about it disappearing. I don't know how to back it up. Could you let us know, if you've done it? Many thanks!
I have been on blogger for almost 6 years, so I don't think I could change now. I need to find out how to back up the files.
