Every Holiday I find an excuse to make sugar cookies.
For some reason, homemade sugar cookies with homemade frosting are one of my favorite desserts!
Look how yellow this dough is!
A friend and I traded services, I did her hair and she gave me fresh eggs from her chickens. I got the better deal! I forgot how wonderful and colorful fresh eggs are! The yolk is so yellow and they taste much better! Anyway, it made me giggle that the dough took on the same color!
I like trying good sugar cookie recipes esp. from friends who have had the recipe for a long time. My favorite recipe is my friend's Michelle K. recipe, which I have lost, and need to get from her again so I tried a new one.
Ingredients
Directions
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour (or overnight).
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
- Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely.
Do you have a recipe you use??

My ultimate favorite sugar cookie recipe is the one from Williams Sonoma. The cookies are more like a shortbread cookie and are great for making cookies on a stick.

So funny you posted this. All I wanted for Valentines Day was home made cut out cookies.... so I made them. I'll email you a picture of one of the few left and the recipe. BEST EVER HANDS DOWN.
I need a good recipe for sugar cookies. Mine always end up melting into a giant unrecognizeable blob while cooking. I've tried adding more flour, but then they look cute and taste like . . . well, flour. I'd love to find a recipe that holds its shape and tastes good. (Maybe it's the high altitude.)
