To clean or not to clean?

** On a side note, I am thrilled that my Dad has has own little blog spot in the world. He travels all around the world for his job and many times the grandkids have no idea where he is or what he is doing. With something as simple as a cell phone that takes pictures, he can keep connected with us. The kids can go everyday and see where Grandpa is and learn something at the same time. If you are thinking about blogging it is easy (and free) and a great way for your kids to see what your extended family is doing!

That room looks similar to one at my house!! I guess I'm pretty mean because my girls share a room and have a VERY difficult time keeping it clean!! I too asked them to clean their room before they left for a weekend. I guess we have different definitions of what clean is so......I got rid of everything that was not where it belonged...clothes, toys, books, ANYTHING! They came home and were happy with their room and really didn't notice what was actually missing (sad, I know). I didn't feel so bad for getting rid of so much stuff.

My mom always used to clean, redo, rearrange my room when I would leave for camp. She still does it to my sister who lives at home. She misses us and that is how she deals with it. If he doesn't like you getting into his stuff maybe next time he will clean before he leaves.

Oh...I would be all over that! Clean and toss...and toss and toss...that's the only way we get to de-clutter around here since my hubs and kids are HUGE pack-rats! good luck!

Exactly what I am thinking... he isn't going to recognize it when he gets home. Next time I can guarantee that he cleans it before he leaves.

Insert evil laughter!

Well, I'm on your side, Tiffany! You clean, throw away, toss, redecorate WHATEVER you want! I can relate to the Jenga bunk bed senario--we have five children and only two bedrooms. The baby is still with us, and the other four kids in one room. My oldest son pointed out that our cat is the only one who has her own room to sleep in...she sleeps in the laundry room! I told him that he could trade places with her if he wanted. He decided that his top bunk wasn't so bad after all. :)

Yeah you should clean it... I would put the Super Destorer in with him instead of the the four year old.
Nice dad has a spot now.

My parents were always really wary of getting into our personal space unless there was something seriously wrong. If you mess with a teen's room it can really upset them and they may look at it as a serious invasion of their privacy. If that's a risk with your kiddo you might want to think twice. But, that being said, there would absolutely be some consequences for not cleaning that up before he left. Maybe he has to clean his room before he gets to sleep when he gets home?

Bulldog,
That is true. I think if he was a little older i would be more sensitive to that aspect, or even if he was a girl. Of my kids it is the girls who are very protective of their space and things. I have a feeling with him (like my husband :) ) he will just be glad that I did it and not him.
I have a feeling he might be relieved. I think it has gotten a little out of control for him and he doesn't know where to start.
What I really need to do is wait until he is home and sit down with him and go through everything in there and help him git rid of it all....

I am still mad he couldn't be bothered to get it done when we were sending him on this great trip!
